Informatics nurses from across the country will gather at the Hyatt Regency in San Francisco, CA from April 21-23 for the American Nursing Informatics Association (ANIA) 2016 Annual Conference. This year’s theme is “Bridging Informatics and Patient Care.”

For many informatics nurses, the ANIA annual conference is crucial to keep up with current trends and best practices in a constantly evolving specialty.

“With technology fueling rapid-fire changes in the industry,” ANIA explained, “these nurses and other providers rely on the conference each year to teach them the latest innovations and stay up to date.”

WHAT’S ON TAP

A slate of keynote and general sessions are on tap to empower attendees to perform at their professional best.

Opening keynote speaker and self-described “standards geek” Keith Boone, FACMImimi, from GE Healthcare will discuss the importance of standards participation in his “Who, Me?” address April 22. During her general keynote talk the next morning, Kristi Henderson, DNP, CFNP, CACNP, FAEN, vice president of virtual care and innovation at Seton Healthcare, will address how technology is transforming healthcare in “Telehealth: The Future of Healthcare.”

Patient advocate and blogger Hugo Campos will discuss partnering with patients in his closing session "From Patient Engagement to Autonomy, Designing My Patient Experience" Saturday afternoon.

Interspersed in between are a handful of concurrent sessions that will address several timely topics, such as:

  • How and will cognitive computing systems improve healthcare?

  • Population-based care transitions decision support: health information exchange (HIE)-enabled care coordination

  • Using nursing metrics to better understand and meet the needs of patients

  • Impacting population health through innovation

  • Connecting smart pumps and vital signs with your electronic health record

Preconference workshops on telemedicine, publishing and career planning are also slated.

And, in a first for the association, ANIA will offer its "Nursing Informatics Certification Review Course" as a 2-day preconference workshop beginning April 20.

DON’T MISS OUT ON THESE

In all, attendees can earn as many as 18.25 continuing nursing education contact hours during the conference. In addition, CPHIMS/CAHIMS continuing education hours are also up for grabs.

Attendees will have free access to sessions via the ANIA Online Library. Registrants can print handouts through the library and virtually attend sessions they miss live. For others, courses can be accessed in the library for a fee after the event.

Other conference draws include networking events with colleagues and trips to the exhibit hall to get briefed on the latest innovations, products and services in the industry.
