This year’s ANPD 2018 Annual Conference is shaping up to be a ‘magical’ event.

Over 1,000 of the nation’s top clinical nurse educators and NPD specialists are getting set to gather at Disney Coronado Springs in Lake Buena Vista, FL next week for the Association for Nursing Professional Development (ANPD) annual conference, which carries the theme "Aspire to Imagine." Network with peers, gain insight from nursing professional development (NPD) leaders, and explore paths that promote the NPD specialty.

If you’re not familiar with ANPD, their 4,000+ members are key to ensuring optimal patient care quality by providing education and training programs for hospital clinicians in a variety of nursing settings. ANPD members work in all areas and are responsible for staff orientation, competency management, education, role development, collaborative partnerships, research/evidence-based practice, and quality improvement.

Goals & Opportunities

ANPD's goals for conference attendees include:

  • Develop NPD practitioners into transformational leaders who engage in environmental scanning, networking, and professional development opportunities.
  • Identify and problem-solve common practice gaps in the interprofessional practice and learning environments to optimize patient-centered care, quality, and patient safety.
  • Advocate for and develop the NPD specialty through translation of best practices, innovative strategies, research evidence, and outcomes measurement into practice.

Customize your schedule, select from pre-convention workshops, keynote speakers, and a variety of concurrent sessions to meet the span of NPD practitioner needs from novice to expert.

ANPD is accredited as a provider of continuing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. Requirements for obtaining contact hours include registration for the convention, evidence of attendance at sessions claimed for contact hours, and completion of online evaluation of sessions attended. Partial credit is awarded for each individual session. Successful completion of a session requires attendance at the session and completion of an online evaluation.

Concurrent sessions will be held throughout the conference, and each session has been selected with the goal of providing resources and evidence-based practices to promote professional role growth.

Featured speakers include Bette Case Di Leonardi, PhD, RN-BC, who on Tuesday, July 17 will present "Imagine!!!" Di Leonardi looks boldly at the NPD future. Recalling the well-known quote, “The past is history, the future is a mystery, today is a gift, that’s why we call it the present,” Di Leonardi visits the past, envisions the future, and suggests actions in our present to take us to that future. "Imagine!!!" will present video examples of NPD practice in which the future has arrived.

On Friday, July 20, Rich Bluni, BSN, RN, will present "Inspired Nurse." Healthcare, and nursing in particular, is one of the few professions where you can impact lives on a profound level: physically, emotionally, and spiritually. The same qualities that make NPD so deeply rewarding, can also make it a challenge for nurses to sustain energy and passion over time. This session is designed to inspire nurses to maintain and recapture those elusive qualities.
